24th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases - ECCMID
Barcelona, Spain | 10 – 13 May 2014
Barcelona’s International Convention Centre forms part of the new technological and business district known as “22@”, one of the city’s best developed urban areas, which includes a selection of hotels and communications and transport network that seamlessly connects it to the rest of the city. Modern installations, architectural beauty and seaside location makes Barcelona’s International Convention Centre truly unique as one of the largest convention centres in Southern Europe. With a built surface area of 100,000 sqm including the Convention Centre and the Forum Auditorium, the centre can welcome up to 15,000 delegates.
The steady growth in importance of ECCMID has made it our mission to maintain or even increase the excellence of this congress. To achieve this goal the Programme Committee will prepare a series of keynote lectures, symposium, educational workshops and meet-the-expert sessions on parallel tracks, covering the entire field of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology.
Congress Sessions are geared toward participants with different levels of experience and different positions. You may attend the sessions of your choice. The information below can help you choose the most appropriate sessions for your needs and interests.
Educational Workshops
At the start of ECCMID, a series of Educational Workshops will take place. They are organised in cooperation with ESCMID Study Groups and partnering organisations.
Meet-the-Expert Sessions
Meet-the-Expert Sessions led by experts in their fields. These sessions rely on active participation of the audience. After a short presentation, the expert will open the session for discussion.
TAE Trainees Day
The Trainee Association of ESCMID (TAE) hosts the European Trainees Day, a day of teaching dedicated to the unique needs of trainees. During this session, various topics in CM and ID will be discussed in a highly interactive way between trainees and experienced CM and ID specialists. A second and equally important aim of the day is to give trainees an opportunity to meet and network with each other.
Keynote and Award Lectures
Lectures of 60 minutes will be given by opinion leaders in their fields as well as by the winners of the ESCMID Excellence and Young Investigator Awards 2015.
Symposia
Parallel symposia will convene with renowned speakers from Europe and other continents who will cover a wide range of recent developments in their fields. A number of symposia are arranged in cooperation with ESCMID Study Groups, while others are jointly organised with partnering societies or organisations. Symposia that are arranged by the industry are organised in close cooperation with the ECCMID Programme Committee. They are an integral part of the scientific programme (Integrated Symposia).
